The Trey LaBostrie Visual Arts Scholarship honors the legacy of Ervin “Trey” LaBostrie III. The recipient shall demonstrate artistic excellence through visual arts and express themes of grief, healing, or the power of joy. This award is privately funded. (This scholarship is now closed)

Two (2) Scholarships
$1,500 Each
Established in memory of Margaret Ruth Emerson Benton (1921–2012) — educator, mother, and community matriarch — this scholarship celebrates perseverance, purpose, and compassion. Two $1,500 scholarships, funded by attorney James "Skip" Benton, will be awarded to empower high school seniors who demonstrate strength of character and a desire to give back to others. One designated recipient will be selected directly by the Benton family. The second award will be chosen by the Trey's Legacy Education Fund Education Committee through an essay review process.
Applicants must submit a 500–700 word essay that clearly shows how they intend to continue a legacy of giving after graduation. Essays should reflect sincerity, vision, and an understanding of how education can be used to uplift others and strengthen the community.
NOTE: Essays generated by AI will be disqualified.
Applicants must be a high school senior graduating in 2026 and must reside in one of the following parishes: Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Orleans or Ouachita.
Applicants must also meet the following qualifications:

Must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA)

Provide proof of acceptance (i.e., letter) into a college or university with the application

Applicants are encouraged to provide evidence of leadership or community service, but is not required.
Recipients will be recognized at the Inaugural Red Tie Scholarship Gala, at the Baton Rouge Marriott, Saturday, March 21, 2026.
